…The Mathematics of Love, Time, and Art:
People tell us that it feels “different” at New Gild Jewelers, from the minute they walk in our door. They’re not sure if it’s our antique cases, our built-in salvage window between our show rooms, or perhaps it’s our pink wall. When our guests browse our eclectic collection of custom, fine art jewelry, they sense something that’s distinct from “regular” jewelry stores.
Everything they encounter, from the 24K, traditional water gilding on our front glass window to the hand stamped gift bag they’re handed when they leave, has been carefully thought out to ensure that their experience reflects our passion for what we do.
While we strive to create and carry attainable pieces, it’s a fact that artisan and custom jewelry is a luxury. If you look hard enough, you can find a sterling silver necklace adorned with a bauble somewhere out there that’s much cheaper than the pieces you’re going to find at New Gild Jewelers. You won’t hear us saying our sterling silver* is better than other sterling silver, or that you can’t find a pretty bauble elsewhere.
So when is a sterling silver necklace more than a sterling silver necklace; and perhaps more importantly, why is it more, both in cost and in satisfaction?
One reason that traditional jewelry sales have stagnated over the years is that we live in an evolving economy in which people tend to pay more for experiences than things. Yet, one piece at a time, our creations find a beloved place adorning someone special. You see, our clients and guests understand that when they buy a piece of fine custom artisan jewelry, they are buying an experience. The ring represents more than the sum of precious metals and gemstones; that equation is missing an addend. That addend is love.
It’s the time that our creative artists and master craftspeople spend learning their craft, practicing and experimenting, and making something that makes that object truly special. People tend to spend their time doing what they love–so, doesn’t it make sense that time equals love, and that you can feel it when you try on, say, an opal necklace that’s perfect for you?
While there is a great, big, global jewelry economy revolving around jewelry manufacture overseas, there is a persistent hum of American craftspeople keeping the jewelry arts alive here in the United States. We’re keeping art alive and sharing it with others through these one-of-a-kind, sacred objects that we hope will bring you as much love as we put into them. Because that’s New Gild Jewelers.
*Sterling silver, by the way, is required to contain at least 92.5% fine silver, which is why sterling pieces are stamped with, “.925.” Our suppliers all work with 100% recycled metals, a fact that makes us proud.
